Cyprus
was once famed for its extensive forests which now cover
around 1/7 of the island mainly in the mountains, the
trees including pine
and cedar. During its occupation, Britain made a
serious effort to replant and conserve the forests but
over the centuries the trees have chopped and used for
construction and for firewood. Other trees include carob,
eucalyptus, juniper and oak.
